Our Made in the USA Faves

MadeintheUSA

Land of the Free. Home of the Brave. I don’t need to convince you of how awesome America is, right? Despite our faults (insert 2016 Presidential Election here) there really is no where else in the world I’d rather be. With all this star spangled fabulousness coming at us, it’s sometimes difficult to weed through and find those truly AMERICAN brands to show off our pride even more. So, I’ve found them for you! Here’s a few of my favorite MADE IN THE USA items, brands & companies. You’re welcome America.

L.L. BEAN BOOTS | There’s nothing that says “Fall in the South” quite like a pair of these!

Pictured below is my pair from 1986 and my daughter Liza’s new pair from 2016. All these years & nothing has changed! The timeless love we have for L.L. Bean is a testament to their quality. It’s amazing how a single pair of boots can span generations! We had so much fun visiting their store in Maine back in 1998. It may just have to come up on our family trip wish list again. So iconic, they even have their very own section on the L.L. Bean website. L.L. Bean is one of the last multi-channel U.S. merchants to still own & operate a U.S. manufacturing facility. I don’t know about you, but that gets my American pride flowing! (Pictured in pink: Lulie’s Sperry Topsiders pair from 2016 – Not part of L.L. Bean’s Made in USA stamp, but the pink is hard to resist!)

CHRISTIE COOKIES | Voted Best Cookie in the South by Southern Living Magazine

Christie has always been a staple of mine, especially around the holiday season. Why? — There are no ingredients you can’t pronounce, they deliver, and even go one step further to customize your containers for the perfect client gifts. Founded 30 years ago in the heart of Nashville, TN, Christie Cookies are as American (and country) as you can get.

JIFFY STEAMERS | Lasts Forever. Portable. Comes in PINK! Need I say more?

Really, though. Do I need to say more? jiffysteamer_pinkThese steamers are the best of the best. I especially love their portable steamer (in pink).  It’s the perfect travel companion, or even the perfect companion if you’re staying right at home. It’s compact, yet powerful. The easiest way to quickly get those annoying wrinkles out & be on your way. I’m not about wasting time, so this isan absolute must if you don’t have time to mess with wrinkles!

WICKED JACK’S TAVERN | If you like rum & cake, this place is for you!

I found Wicked Jack’s Tavern during my travels in Nashville & it has been the find of a lifetime! Their rum cakes are soaked in the finest Jamaican rum & wickedjackstavern_nashvilletnthen vacuumed
packed to keep that amazing flavor.
The perfect gift for any occasion. I especially love Wicked Jack’s during the
holiday season. I’m always looking for something different. I don’t want my clients to receive a blah fruit cake. This is sure to spice up their gift pile & keep them coming back for more…of your work!

BEECHWOOD METALWORKS | More fun & colorful than the real thing!

I’m a big fan of family-run business & Beechwood Metalworks tops my list! Established in 2002 by the husband & wife team of Casey & Emily Lewis, this dynamic duo does it all. I’ve worked with them on multiple projects, from multifamily to commercial. They are able to take what’s inside my head & make it better than even my imagination! They created these palm trees for the beach at Lakeside Village Apartments. The Georgia climate isn’t the friendliest on real palm trees, so we came up with these as the perfect solution. Check out their gallery & you’ll find additional projects we’ve worked together on!

BIG WHEELS | Forget that regular ole’ kids playground – Switch it up & go retro!

lakeside-village-retro-ridesAt Lakeside Village Apartments in Columbus, GA we decided to create a play space that stood out from those boring monkey bars. We created a Retro Ride Park featuring the original Big Wheels tricycles. Since 1968, Big Wheel has been creating these iconic tricycles. It’s the perfect way to bring nostalgia and fun to your apartment communities, or really any project with a kids park!

DANIELS WOOD LAND | Treehouse? Or, TreeKINGDOM?

I came across Daniels Wood Land during our search for a playground during construction of our Lakeside Village Apartments project. I knew I wanted to create a special place for the kids in the community to play, but it had to be something extra. We aren’t about settling! You might have seen them featured on Animal Planet’s Redwood Kings. This dynamic duo brings wood to life in ways I didn’t know was possible. Big or small, Daniels Wood Land does it all!

TRINA TURK | Don’t just blend in – Make a statement!

If you’ve ever met me, or just scrolled through the blog, you know how much I love color! Trina Turk takes color to a new level. I love her swimsuits & swim coverups. They’re the perfect addition to a tropical vacation & the quality is impeccable. Finding such a high quality brand, made in the USA isn’t easy! But, Trina Turk does it right.

LEE INDUSTRIES | American-made furniture since 1969

I’m always on the lookout for furniture companies that can accommodate my love of bright colors. Lee Industries is my perfect partner in crime! Below is a look at our waiting area for the Woodruff Storage project. Yes, you read that right. This is in a STORAGE building. I told you we don’t do anything inside of the box, even if it is just a storage unit business. This luscious WoodruffStorageCouchyellow couch was exactly what the space needed. Our color palette was orange & turquoise with extra touches of yellow & pink. Because who doesn’t need extra touches of yellow & pink?

W Storage

Storage? What can possibly be fun about that? We all haul a bunch of stuff that we don’t even realize we have, or we move, or we just simply need to put our stuff in storage.

woodruff_storage_2

At Marketing and Design with Color we always say our way is about making places and spaces fun! And we did. The idea for W Storage came from our idea of making apartment amenities the best & the brightest so our residents would live with us longer. We wanted people to choose W Storage over other storage facilities.

Woodruff Development partnered with our design team and began the project in January of 2014 and had a completely finished 65,000 square foot facility ready for the grand opening in November.

We had such a fun day shopping to decorate W Storage! We visited Tuesday Morning, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Home Goods and then, went and bought an awesome yellow sectional at Lee Industries!! Talk about a packed minivan!! I love my Honda Odyssey! Enough room to fit anything and everything!!

Betsy doing her thing!

Bonus pic: we were able to fit a chair about as tall as me in my Honda Odyssey minivan!!

For the grand opening, everyone was there! Even Elle, the elephant mascot, who will remind you of all the junk you can store in her trunk!! W Storage is an energetic and modern self-storage facility, that we equipped with leading climate control technology for this Georgia heat, advanced security systems (need to keep our favorite things safe!), and of course FREE STARBUCKS!! Who doesn’t love coffee? I know I do!!

Marketing and Design with Color didn’t just want to develop the usual, boring storage facility… We jumped all in!!

We believe that color changes everything, and with that thought in mind, we designed and developed a state-of-the-art high design lounge, where you can take a break, sit, relax, and surround yourself by all things beautiful and fun!!

Our attention to detail is in every corner, and you will notice that for the sofas in W Storage, we decided to add our touch of Marketing and Design with Color by using these super fun and quirky pillows by Alexandra Ferguson to remind us to have fun and enjoy the ride, no matter what it is we are doing!! Even the tags on these pillows are awesome!!

Alexandra’s handmade holiday gift project the winter of 2008 was felt appliqued pillows with material made from recycled plastic bottles. They were a blast to make, and pillow recipients were delighted. Not one to ignore a passionate ‘call to action,’ Alexandra opened her business online in January 2009. With a background in fashion, managing sample rooms for some of New York’s top designers, she had the experience and know-how to take a design from concept to production-ready on the showroom floor. It was time to put her unstoppable work ethic behind her own name.

Leftover Paint?

So you just finished painting your bedroom, the downstairs bathroom, the stairs and a tiny spot on the wall… awesome! Now you have all this leftover paint. What do you do with it!?

I found this great idea in HGTV magazine!!

Store leftover paint in clear jars and label them with the room you used it in & the date!

Not only is this a great idea, but the colors look super cute, especially if you have a palette you love!! If you are unsure of how to pick a palette to give your space a little “botox” hire us for a consultation or we can go the whole 9 yards!!

Left or Right? The gas pump question!!

Do you ever find yourself wondering (and hoping) you remember which side is your gas tank on?This sticky situation is especially true when you are driving your spouses or a friends car or a rental car!! Take a minute to look at this picture…

Can you guess which side the tank is on?

The gas pump icon on your dashboard, has a tiny little arrow that points to the gas tank! In my case, the tank is on the left!!

So, next time you pull up to the gas station, take a quick peek at your dashboard and you will know which pump to pick!

Lowcountry Originals

Let me tell you about a favorite vendor of ours— Lowcountry Originals!  I love their story! Lowcountry Originals sprang up during the recession for the need to do something unique and different. It was the creation of Becky Brackett, Lighting Specialist, and Libby Boyden, Interior Designer.

They wanted to come up with light fixtures that did not look like they came off an assembly line. Thus, Lowcountry Originals was born in 2008. All of the work is custom and handcrafted from the first pencil sketch from Lowcountry Originals passed on for production to their artisan metal-smiths out of Savannah, GA. “The Lowcountry” encompasses the area from the northern beaches of Charleston, South Carolina to the southern islands of Georgia. Natural materials used for these unique pieces are oyster shells, reeds, metals in brass, quartz crystals, steel and copper and driftwood. The candle sleeves are made of natural beeswax, copper and steel. The finishes are created specifically for Lowcountry and are inspired by the beautiful earth tones from mother nature!

Check out our oyster shell lighting handcrafted straight from the lowcountry.  Charming Southern Ladies!!!  Lowcountry Originals are featured at Lullwater Apartments above the outside cooking space, the perfect spot for grilling!

I believe in Pink!

I believe in pink!
I love the saying I made for my office wall.
I believe in pedicures.
I believe in overdressing.
I believe in lipstick.
I believe in PINK.
I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner.
I believe in fun.
I believe that the glass is half full.
I believe in being strong when everything else seems to be going wrong.
I believe the happiest girls are the prettiest girls.
I believe tomorrow is another day.
I believe in miracles.

Day Trip to Mount Laurel

Southern Living Magazine ad about Mount Laurel

Southern Living Magazine ad about Mount Laurel

We toured the Southern Living Idea House, Celebration Cottage, and my favorite room was the dining room, designed by Margaret Kirkland. In a recent interview about Margaret Kirkland she stated that one of her greatest pleasures as a designer is to go hunting in a clients storage room for old treasures to give them new life. I felt like this is one of the most relatable aspects of her design talent.

I absolutely love all of the textures and patterns she used in her design.

The idea that Kirkland uses the mixed media not only with her texture and patterns but also with her collaboration of history and modern sophistication just made my heart happy when I walked into this glorious room!

The large Sally King Benedict abstract face paintings were such fun and made me so glad to own a Sally King Benedict piece of art myself!

The palms trees were amazing by Lindroth Design.

We loved seeing our friends at Stray Dog Designs!!! Hi Billy! The Andrea Pendant and Marrakesh Mirror were featured in the house!

There was so much going on in this room, but it worked!  Thanks for the personal tour with Katheryn Lott, Kristen Bryan, and Ray Jackson. These folks are the epitome of southern hospitality!

Ice Cream & Marshmallows

Do your kids love ice cream as much as mine do? Sweet kids & beautiful messes go hand in hand! To avoid ice cream dripping from the bottom of the sugar or waffle cone onto their clothes…

try putting a marshmallow inside the bottom of the cone & then add the ice cream to avoid crazy spills!!

Enjoy!
